A beautiful ornate silver plated filigree cross with a silver plated twisted rope chain about 23" long. The cross measures a little over 3" long and 2 1/2" wide and is decorated with deep red rhinestones and red enamel. The Hobe mark on the back tells us that this piece is post mid-1950s when manufacturers began using the copyright insignia. A lovely piece of jewelry history.
The Hobe jewelry business began in Paris in 1887. In the 1920s they made jewelry for the Zeigfield Follies and in the 1940s and 50s Hobe focused on Hollywood stars and fashion models. This cross is most likely from the late 1950s or 60s, when the company made jewelry from rhinestone, glass beads and semiprecious stones.
