From the marks on the back of this stunning antique brooch we know that it was made by William B. Kerr & Co. of Newark, New Jersey. The hammer and 3 X's mark was used between 1880's to 1927. This brooch is circa: 1900s. Kerr was well regarded for Art Nouveau jewelry, holloware and other vanity items. His work is in many museums including a similar brooch at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. The company was absorbed into Gorman in 1927. The detail of the open work is of a beautiful art nouveau maiden with flowing locks of hair adorned with large poppy flower blossoms. In addition to Kerr's company mark, the piece is marked "Sterling 1297" on the back. The brooch will come polished and in a presentation box.

Size: 2.5 x 2", 20 grams; Condition: Very Good vintage condition, slight scratches to metal. The dimple in her nose is part of the mold.
