Considered a "founding father" of costume jewelry, the Trifari jewelry brand was created by Gustavo Trifari Sr. and Leo F. Krussman in 1918 and later added a third partner, Carl Fishel. In 1930 Trifari hired Alfred Philippe as head designer, and that is when the company really began to take off. Philippe’s background in designing very high-end fine jewelry for firms like Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels brought a wonderful sense of luxury and style to the company. Pieces by Philippe are highly sought after and have recently increased in price. Trifari ceased production in 1999.
