The brooch to this set is a big, bold and dimensional piece of jewelry, not to mention interesting. The brown, striated glass cabochons are known as porphyr glass. During the lampworking glass process, multiple canes of glass rods are combined before they are press molded. This was an expensive process and the stones would have been chosen for the highest quality pieces. In this brooch they combined oval and teardrop shaped multi-cane stones, enhanced them with amber rhinestones and faux baroque pearls. The gold plated setting is domed, giving the piece great dimension. Gorgeous set!
