Purchased at an antique market in Amsterdam, this lovely wooden box has a sterling silver repousse top with all the hallmarks needed to identify it as a J.M. Van Kempen from the first part of the 20th century. The name Van Kempen has long been a well known established ( household) name in the Dutch silver industry, going back to the early 1800s. Van Kempen attached great importance to quality and careful finish of all the objects made. That is why the factory in Voorschoten made numerous commissions for the Royal Family and government institutions. A wonderful and unusual find.
