Compared to the early Schiaparelli or Chanel of her time, Alice Caviness started her design career as a couture designer. Encouraged to expand her abilities to the costume jewelry world to compliment her garment designs, Caviness designed a fair amount of her jewelry but also employed designers Lois Steever and Camille Petronzio. Caviness pieces were only sold in the highest quality of stores and Alice was very involved in all aspects of production and sales. Lois Steever eventually continued the line after Alice's death in 1983.
