Really wonderful, drippy Trifari set. The necklace hangs 3.5 inches in the front and consists of all glass faceted black and crystal beads, black and gold art glass beads and faux pearl beads. What a striking combination. The earrings use the same beads and are "ear climbers" which will climb up the curve of your ear when worn. A great set for a night on the town or special event. The hook on the clasp of the necklace is marked with just plain Trifari, indicating a date prior to 1955.
Size: Necklace: 16 inches with 3.5 inch front drop; Clip Earrings: 3 inches; Condition: Excellent; Circa: Early 1940s
Considered a "founding father" of costume jewelry, the Trifari jewelry brand was created by Gustavo Trifari Sr. and Leo F. Krussman in 1918 and later added a third partner, Carl Fishel. In 1930 Trifari hired Alfred Philippe as head designer, and that is when the company really began to take off. Philippe’s background designing very high end fine jewelry for firms like Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels brought a wonderful sense of luxury and style to the company. Pieces by Phillipe are highly sought after and have recently increased in price. Trifari ceased production in 1999.
