A beautiful gold tone flying bird brooch with a long wingspan, Trifari had several of these collections over time and they did a wonderful job capturing the beauty of the creature. This one has soft pink enamel following the flow of the wings and a pink glass cabochon eye. It measures 4"x 2.5". Safety clasp closure. Marked "Trifari" with a copyright mark indicating it was made post 1955. Excellent condition.
Considered a "founding father" of costume jewelry, the Trifari jewelry brand was created by Gustavo Trifari Sr. and Leo F. Krussman in 1918 and later added a third partner, Carl Fishel. In 1930 Trifari hired Alfred Philippe as head designer, and that is when the company really began to take off. Philippe’s background designing very high end fine jewelry for firms like Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels brought a wonderful sense of luxury and style to the company. Pieces by Phillipe are highly sought after and have recently increased in price. Trifari ceased production in 1999.
