A very beautiful matched pair of Bristol glass vases with hand painted exotic birds and foliage. These blown glass vases have a cylindrical shaped body with gently sloped shoulders, a short neck and flush cut mouth. The glass is a translucent light custard color with a very fine satin finish, very smooth to the touch and very light in weight. The hand painted decorations are of a matched pair of exotic crested birds ( they face each other) in blue, green, yellow and warm caramel brown enamels. Gold gilding is use to simulate the texture of feathers on the bird's head and body. The birds are perched amongst twigged branches with small leaves and berries in pale yellow enamel that are highlighted with gold gilding. Around the mouth of the vases is a thin band of gold gilding which has darken over the years and shows some signs of wear. The base of each vase has a highly polished pontil mark and a hand signed number ( 89 & 3 ), these numbers probably denoted which artist did the decorating so that they could be paid for their work. Otherwise no makers marks are present. Condition is excellent without any chip, cracks or repairs. Measurements are 6 3/4" T X 3 1/4" W at the shoulder with a 2 1/8" diameter mouth. These are an elegantly beautiful pair which would add a refined touch to your décor without being overwhelming.
