This is a very special triple overlay glass bride's basket consisting of a opaque white base covered with an pink opal glass and topped with a transparent chrome green. The combination of the pink topped with the green results in a more melon tone. The curve and scalloped edge is a single layer of the transparent chrome green glass. The overall color combination is very appealing and brings to mind a cantaloupe with its peachy center and green rind. The shape of the basket is that of a swallow bowl with a curved over edge, finished in a unique scalloped design as opposed to the more common crimped or ruffled edge. The piece is further enhanced with tiny white and gold enameled flowers and dots and larger gilt scalloped scrolls. The underside of the bowl is fluted and has a ground pontil mark. The condition of the glass is very fine with only one tiny chip to the underside of one of the scallops ( see the 7th image above for details). There is general wear to the raised enamel from use and age.
Measurement are 12 1/2" diameter with a 3" depth.
This glass bride's basket come with a replacement display base produced by Standard Silver Co. Toronto, marked quadruple plate. The base is of a
winged cherub. The four support brackets are applied oak leaves and acorns. The height of the stand is 8 1/2 " with a 4" diameter base.
Since this piece is a marriage between the glass bride's basket and replacement stand care should be taken to ensure the safety of the glass. While the glass piece fits into the stand's holder it is not held securely in place by the short brackets. Overall the two pieces together make for a very breathtaking display.
