Skookum Pair + Papoose Male 9 1/2" Female 8 1/2" Circa 1930's or 1940's
Skookum Pair + Papoose Male 9 1/2" Female 8 1/2" Circa 1930's or 1940's. Good condition except the blankets are uniformly sun bleached, see pictures. Some wear to the feet, the male is missing his left toe and the female is missing the top of her left shoe. The papoose was added by someone long ago. This size Skookum did not have a papoose. The female retains her original pair of beaded necklaces. The wigs appear to be mohair. The heads I believe to be composition. The male has his original head band. Note the pair have matching blankets, this is hard to find.
Skookum dolls were sold near Indian reservations as souvenirs for tourists in the 1930's up to the 1960's. Skookums sold in the 1950's and 1960's had plastic feet. There were some Skookum type dolls that were made by Minnetonka from Minnetonka Mn. that were very similar to Skookums.
