The Freedom Monument (Latvian: Brīvības piemineklis) is a memorial located in Riga, Latvia, honouring soldiers killed during the Latvian War of Independence (1918–1920). It is considered an important symbol of the freedom, independence, and sovereignty of Latvia. Unveiled in 1935, the 42-metre (138 ft) high monument of granite, travertine, and copper often serves as the focal point of public gatherings and official ceremonies in Riga.
Voldemars Skulte was a listed Latvian / American artist. His Biography
Alise and Voldemars Skulte were natives of Latvia. They studied fine arts in Europe, in particular, the styles and technique of the impressionists.
In 1950, Mr. and Mrs. Skulte came to the United States where they both continued their art studies at the New York City College and privately under the well-known European painter Professor Ludorfs Liberts.
They exhibited in many art shows in Paris, New York, Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, San Francisco and at the John Hurron Museum in Indianapolis, Reading Public Museum, the New York and Montreal World Fairs. In fact, Voldemars painting "New York Harbor" was awarded Prix de Paris 1962.
This Breathtakingly Beautiful Impressionist Painting is housed in a carved wood frame, and in frame measures 36" tall, 30" across. Excellent condition. It is signed lower right and dated (appears to be '74), there is also writing on verso of frame.
