Fabulous 1973 Original Watercolor by Listed Artist Al Barker. Original Spring 1973 Exhibition label from the Salmagundi Art Club of Greenwich Village NYC on verso. This painting is titled "Winter Barns (Hillside farm) Derry N. (New)Hampshire". I believe this landscape portrays The Robert Frost Farm, located in Derry New Hampshire. The Robert Frost Farm underwent renovations in 1974, one year after Al Barker painted this scene. One can see in this watercolor The Four buildings of the Frost Farm; Big House, Little House, Back House and Barn. The Robert Frost Farm is a National Landmark in NH, and is considered a "Hub" for poets from around the world who visit this farm, which was home to Robert Frost during his childhood / formative years from 1900 to 1911. His family farm was possibly the inspiration for many of Frost's works, and later in life Frost started proceedings to buy back the Farm.
The artist, Al Barker, is still an active painter as well as still a member of The Salmagundi Club of NYC. This prestigious Art Club was founded in 1871. Its members have included important American artists such as Thomas Moran, William Merritt Chase, Louis Comfort Tiffany, N.C. Wyeth and Childe Hassam.
