This doll is 8" tall, hand made and painted in Cuba dated 1953. This is another of our own family items that belonged to my aunt which brought it with her to the USA in 1960 . It was a gift given to her.
It is made of wire covered with fabric, it was hand-painted too. Her dress it is the folklore (Cuban Guajira) dress worn mainly during the famous Carnivals in Habana in some of the COMPARSAS (Dance Troupes).
Our mother told us, they use to make these dolls and sell them as souvenirs on the streets where the carnivals took place, they also were made by order.
The most valuable detail of this doll is the label that is sown in the back of her dress that reads: " Habana, Cuba. Sent by Marjory Lancaster May 21st, 1953. Man' Woman".
She is old but in great condition!
