This item is an amber glass covered butter dish manufactured by Federal Glass between 1932 and 1939. The piece is 4 1/2" tall at the finial. 6 7/8" across the base, 1 1/2" deep at the plate rim, with a bottom width of 3 1/2". The plate surface and the domed cover are smooth and the "Madrid" pattern is on the exterior of the cover and underside of the base plate.
