Georgian earrings have a wonderful sense of form. Designed to catch attention in candlelight and with movement, dancing being a chief pastime of the day, they encompass some of the most beautiful specimens available in antique earring jewelry. Unfortunately, with their beauty comes a hefty price tag, most real Georgian diamond drops are now out of sight in ability to purchase.
The Georgians themselves worried about displaying their jewelry in an age of thieves, highwayman robbers and cut throats so they spent much effort creating fantastic paste jewelry; and Georgian paste jewelry is often as lovely and as well crafted as its diamond cousins.
But now Georgian paste has gone through the roof often commanding many thousands of dollars. What to do? that is where we appreciate the Georgian Revival period that occurred in Edwardian times. Many original Georgian period jewels were copied and re-made in silver. They often do not have the great detail evidenced in Georgian paste but they have the same beautiful designs at a fraction of the cost.
Here are Georgian Revival earrings in the drop style with pendant centers. The detail to the bows and the collets around the main stones is very good they look like the genuine articles they were copied from. Presently they are screw type ears but they could be converted to wires.
Measure approx. 2.5 inches long.
