Another lovely antique English sterling silver, fully hallmarked, novelty silver pepper shaker or pepperette.
These are a collecting niche in themselves as they were fashioned after all forms of objects and animals. Some of them reach staggering figures. A pepperette of Punch and Judy sold for a whopping 25,000GBP at Christies in 2014, that's over $30,000 for an object that was less than 2 inches in height!
This is a pepper shaker formed as a Guernsey Jug. Guernsey, an island between England and France, is very famous for its cows and milk, cream and butter products. Little jugs such as this were used to separate off and carry cream from the cows milking shed to the farmhouse for sale.
This little jug has a few small dings but it adds to its charm. It was made by JC and Co Ld, J Collyer & Co Ltd founded in Birmingham in 1900, it was assayed in Birmingham and has the date letter 'O' which, oh me, looks like it could be one of a bunch of different years..1913?
It measures 2 inches in height with a base of 0.75 inches in diameter.
