Of all of the antique English Georgian tea caddies I love the Chinoiserie ones the best. These include the pen-work and the Pagoda shaped. The lines of the Pagoda with its terraced top and bombe front can't be beat!

What affects the desirability of the antique tortoiseshell caddy is the color of the tortoiseshell and the size. Like many antiques, smaller is more desired and more expensive than big. Smaller antiques fit into more types of houses and decors than overly large, from mansions to cottages.

It's like Goldilocks and the porridge, some are too dark or too blond of a shell, and some caddies are large, which inhibits their display factor. But some, like this cognac colored multi tort in a cute smaller size are just right.

There is a store in London: Tony and June Stone's Antique Boxes that have the most marvelous caddies at fantastic prices. Their caddies are 'To Die For' but the prices will kill you. This caddy was purchased there many years ago and is delightful.

The caddy retains its original key, interior lids and interior red velvet, all in very good condition. It has fabulous ball feet and is inset with a silver cartouche to the lid.

There are some tiny flea bites to the edges of the shell, they can hardly be seen, except in high zoom photos, but you can feel them as a slight roughness to the edges, this is normal for an antique that is over 200 years old and has sustained use.

The caddy speaks for itself, no additional explanations necessary. While it is expensive it is many thousands cheaper than its original purchase price.

Measurements: 4.5 inches tall, 5 inches long, by 4 inches deep.
