This is a tremendous early 19th century French sweets box also known as a dragee box. Dragees are bite-sized confectionery with a hard outer shell, often in many colors.
Dragee boxes are typically made of card and paper with a metallic paper Dresden trim with a domed glass top.
Inside the glass domed top of this box is a wonderful plaster, dried flower and Dresden trim scene of a mother sitting at a table with her embroidery, titled "Maman".
Normally these boxes are very small but this is a large 4.5 inches square.
The paper and trim making up the box is in good condition for its delicate nature and great age. The interior of the box is pink still with its original ribbon. Please look at the photos as they comprise part of the item's description.
This is a rare and fragile item, over 200 years old and unusual in its genre.
