This is an unusual box made of very thick hide leather which has been stitched at the corners and edges. The leather has acquired a really lovely patina, brown / tan mottled color. It is difficult to date because it is a one off individually crafted; of a folk art style with a tooled top in a flower design. I believe it is from the first quarter of the 20th century and of British origin. It has brass stop hinges, lock and escutcheon. There is a working key.
The interior has been entirely lined in an early rexine material. There is a tray.
The box is solid and in very good condition. Please examine the photographs to make your assessment of the box and please do not hesitate to contact me if you need further information.
It measures 8 inches (20.5cm) x 6.25 inches (15.5cm) x 4 inches 10.5cm).
