This is lovely quality English Edwardian Box c1900. It is well made, constructed of solid mahogany, and veneered with beautifully grained flame mahogany, carefully chosen to add decorative detail to the top and all the sides. The top is edged with cross banded king wood inlay and there is light wood edging trim running down all the corners, at the sides.
The box has its original brass hinges, and it sits on the original solid brass paw feet.
The top opens right back (not stop hinges). It sits squarely on the base when closed. There is writing on the underside of the lid “Emmie Mia”. The interior has a mahogany lining.
The box is in very good to excellent condition. I mention for completeness that there is very minor hairlining (slight uneveness) to the flame veneer, going with the grain, here and there, part of antique patination of this type of veneer.
It measures 5 inches (12.75cm) square x 4 inches (10cm) high.
Please examine the photographs to help make your assessment of the box’s appearance and condition.
