Beautiful French fitted jewelry box or necessaire. It is veneered in burl / burr wood, and the top is slightly domed in shape. There is a central cartouche of inlaid brass and colored wood / boulle work, and there are all the original brass metal fittings, including a working lock and key. The box dates from 2nd Empire, Napoleon III period, 1852 -70.
On the interior is the gorgeous original quilted, satin silk, thickly padded, and in a lovely, soft, pale blue colour. The fittings include antique scissors, stiletto, scent bottle, needle case, bodkin and thimble.
Both the exterior and the interior is overall in very good antique condition. There is a minor dent of the front and slight wear to edge of the top. There is a very slight lift to the top at the edges (does not meet quite flush when closed). The material has a few little signs of age, please look at the close up view of the interior - you can just see a tiny tear on the left.
The exterior color is rich and striking, so the box looks lovely on display.
The box measures just over 7.75 inches (20 cm) x 5.5 inches (14 cm) x 3.25 inches (8 cm).
