Beautiful French burl wood box; a table or dressing table box for handkerchiefs or jewellery. It has a lovely inlaid brass, wood cartouche on the center of the slightly domed lid. It has brass fittings, including a brass lock with a working key. It is from Napoleon III period, 1852- 70.
The interior is all the original pale pink, quilted, thickly padded, satin silk. There has been the addition of two ribbon reinforcements at the hinges.
Both the exterior and the interior are in very good condition. On very close inspection, there is a tiny little bit of wear to the edge of the lid, at the back corner, and a very fine surface hairlines to the top (front, right corner). The exterior color s rich and striking, so the box looks lovely on display. The photographs are large and close up if you keep the mouse on them, so you should be able to see how nice the box is. Please examine them to help make your assessment of the box’s appearance and condition, and email if you would like further photographs or information.
The box measures just over 7.75 inches (19.75 cm) x just under 8 inches (20 cm) x 3.25 inches (8.25 cm).
