Very pretty kidney shaped jewellery box. It is beautifully and skilfully veneered in a burr wood, which appears to be bird’s eye maple, with hand painted flowers on the top and sides. It has its original brass hinges and lock with a dainty little working key (the key locks fine although the locking pin does not move across fully). It is a French box dating from the last quarter of the 19th century c1890.
The original satin silk is very beautiful although it has a little age staining.
The box has a solid feel and is in very good condition. There is a slight smile to the front when closed and a little fading to the paint work on the top. This does not detract in my view and is all part of its lovely antique patina.
It measures 6.5 inches (16.5cm) x just under 3.5 inches (8.5cm) x 2.5 inches (6.5cm) high.
Please examine the photographs to help make your assessment of the box’s appearance condition.
