Unusual antique jewelry box. Hand made and hewn from solid wood, with the texture of the box used to give decorative detail to the exterior. It is a piece of folk art from Continental Europe, although I am not sure in which country it was made, and there is no label or mark to show this. I believe it dates from around 1900.
The box has a working lock with the old original key (from the look of it). The key turns and the lock works fine, but I can not remove the key from the lock. I do not want to force it in case it breaks, as it is better to have the original key that remains in its key hole than not.
The interior is all the original, and is lined in a soft, pale green velvet, which has faded slightly with age and has a few tiny spots, but is otherwise sound.
The box is in very good condition and has a striking appearance on display. There is a slight lift to one side of the lid when it is closed, due to a little age shrinkage of the solid wood, but you can not notice unless you look very closely.
The box measures 10.25 inches (26cm) x 7.5 inches (18.5cm) x 3.25 inches (8.5cm) high.
Please examine the photographs to help make your assessment of the box’s appearance and condition. Please email if you would like further photographs or information.
