This is a fine quality antique jewellery box dating from around the turn of the 19th century. It is all original with a grained morocco leather finish in a dark wine or maroon colour. On the base is the retailers name embossed in gold, the prestigious retailers Melliship & Harris Westbourne Grove, London, (please see photograph). The box has a silver toned plated metal top handle, matching escutcheon and a sturdy piano hinge to the lid, and to the hinged interior trays. The strong lock is the original and there is a working key.
The box is large and is very well accommodated with trays and storage space, including ring, bracelet and watch storage compartments. The interior is fully lined in the original material of leather and matching plush dark maroon velvet.
It is a lovely antique box and in such good condition for its age. There are a few indentations here and there and a slight bumpiness to the surface of the leather on the lid, but nothing that detracts from its attractive appearance. Please examine the photographs to help make your assessment of the box’s appearance and condition, and let me know by email if you would like further photographs or information. I have taken the photographs in different light thus the colour differs slightly between them.
The measurements are 11 inches (28cm) x 7.5inches (19cm) x 6 inches (15cm).
