This is a decorative and charming late 19th century box, for ties, gloves, trinkets and jewellery. It is made of antique celluliod, which is a very early type of plastic used in the Victorian time to mimic the colour of ivory. It can also be moulded to form decorative detail as can be seen in the geometric design on this box and the floral bouquet decorating the top. On the base of the box is a patent mark dating 1992/93. There is also an old pen written inscription which I cannot fully read but ends with the word 'School'. (Please see the photograph attached).

The is the original a metal catch to the lid and the metal hinges.

The interior is lined with real satin silk in a pink colour. There is also gold lettering which says 'Neck Ties'.

It is in good and serviceable condition with a few areas of wear reflecting its age. The right corner edge of the exterior lid has a repair and there are a few spots of discolouring on the surface. The interior also has a few little areas of wear and repair to the silk, and the gold letters are faded.

It measures 12.5 inches (32cm) x 3.75 inches (9.5cm) x.2.75 inches (7cm) high.
