It has canted edges decoratively inlaid, which looks lovely set against the rich color of the wood. There is a coin silver inlaid central cartouch and diamond shaped escutcheon. The box dates from the late Victorian period.
It has brass stop hinges and a working lock with key. There are some associated tools including steel scissors, extending glove hook, mother of pearl handled stilleto, china thimble and cotton reels.
The interior is all the original. There is a wooden tray with compartments and dark pink silk lining. The compartment lids have little mother of pearl knobs.
