Antique stationary box beautifully decorated with marquetry inlay in the classical style. It is a high quality box with the inlay in different colored woods. The brass hard wear, hinges, lock etc., are good quality and sturdy. The lock is working and there is a key. I believe the box is French and dates from circa 1870s (Napoleon III)
On the interior are compartments for stationary and pens, and also brass slots for calendars and such like. The interior has a high quality, polished finish. I have included lots of photographs so please examine these to help you make your assessment of the box’s appearance and condition, and if you need further photographs or information please do not hesitate to contact me.
The box is in very good condition and has a lovely polished antique patina which has not been stripped away. There is a repaired surface hairline crack in the veneer due to a little shrinkage on the lower part of the front opening, which is stable. The box looks beautiful on display and makes a handsome desk top or sideboard item.
It box measures 11.75 inches (30cm) x 6.75 inches (17cm) x 10 inches (25cm) at the highest point.
