Pretty pine box with velvet and silk purple lining, which looks nice against the rich color of the pine. Dates from late Victorian period. It has a domed lid and brass fittings, including stop hinges, lock and escutcheon. There is a working key.
The box has been restored, stripped and the old pine polish up. The wood pine is a lovely color and the box looks very attractive on display.
There are some indentations and surface markings (including marks where the rivets are at the sides) reflecting the age of the pine, but this all adds to the character of the wood. It is all in very good structural condition.
The box measures 8.5 inches (22cm) x 6.5 inches (16.5cm) x 3.5 inches (8.75cm) high.
I have included lots of photographs so please examine these to help you make your assessment of the box’s appearance and condition, and if you need further photographs or information please do not hesitate to contact me.
