This is a black grained leather jewelry box with its gorgeous original satin silk padded interior. It is mounted with decorative steel panels in the Art Nouveau style and has a matching escutcheon. It dates to the turn of the Art Nouveau period of the 19th century and is continental in origin, probably French. The locks work and there is a very pretty key. The box sits on four little steel feet.
The interior is a striking maroon red, deeply padded real satin silk; all original and in very good condition. It is fitted with the tools as seen in the photographs: beautiful Art Nouveau shaped scissors, folding glove hook, steel needle case, a thimble, a mother of pearl handled crochet hook, a mother of pearl handled stiletto and a steel bodkin.
The box measures 9.25 inches (23.5cm) x 6.25 inches (16cm) x 3.75 inches (9.75cm) high.
This is a good quality box, with a heavy feel to it, and is in lovely condition. The bottom of the box, the underneath, has some very minor worn patches around the edges but this has been polished over to reinforce it against further wear, and is inconspicuous. I have included lots of photographs so please examine these to help you make your assessment of the box’s appearance and condition, and if you need further photographs or information please do not hesitate to contact me.
