This is an interesting old sewing box which I believe dates from 1920s. It has an unusual finish as the wooden base has been covered in a thick embossed paper made to look like crocodile skin. The overall effect is delightful, with a lovely colour and polished finish that is very attractive. It has a working lock and a key. The box may have been originally intended as a child's gift. It certainly has lots of charm.
The interior also looks very pretty with colored, mottled paper, compartments, pin cushions and padding. There are sewing items inside, some of which I believe may be the original (including the little rolls of sewing cottons). There is also a little enameled "usef" (a container for needles and brass thimble). The enamel has a little wear to the edges.
The box is in really lovely condition both inside and out as you should be able to see from the pictures, with only a tiny bit of restoration of the colour on the corners. Please examine the photographs to make your assessment of the condition, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you need further information.
It measures 9.25 inches (23.5cm) x 6.5 inches (16cm) x 3.25 inches (8.25cm) high.
