This is a delightful box with neat proportions and a very attractive finish. It is veneered in mahogany and walnut to give contrast of grain and colour to the top and sides. There is a white cartouch and escutcheon which is made from celluloid (a hot pin test has been done to test this). Please see close up photographs. It has brass hinges and a working lock with a key. Dates from c 1900.
The interior is entirely lined with the original, beautiful satin silk in a rich red/dark pink colour. This has a ruched finish to the underside of the lid, and there are dainty corner pockets.
The box is in very good to excellent condition both inside and out.
It measures 7.25 inches (17.5cm) x 4.5 inches (11.75cm) x 3.75 inches (9.5cm) high.
Please examine the photographs to help make your assessment of the box’s appearance and condition.
