This pigeon clock was manufactured by Toulet Excelsior in approximately 1910. There is a warning in French and Dutch affixed to the inside of the wood case regarding rotation. Pigeon clocks were notorious in Europe in the mid 19th century for racing Homing Pigeons. These clocks were used to record a serial number which corresponded to a band on the pigeon's leg. The clock was set and sealed. When the pigeon returned, the owner removed the band and placed it in a slot in the clock which recorded the pigeon's official time. This clock has not been tested.
