Very Rare and Highly collectable Ellen Quandelacy Zuni Animal Fetish Necklace. It's about 30" long Tiered with highly detailed pieces spaced by natural Coral beads and turquoise spacers. The large double sided center piece measures about 2 13/16" long. Zuni artist Ellen Quandelacy 1920s-2002” was a reknown silversmith, lapidariest from Zuni Pueblo”. This necklace is marked with a metal tag stamped Quandelacy. Ellen learned art from her father Johnny Quam. The family is well known for its stringing fetishes, first polishing the fetish and then drilling them, a technique they believe keeps the carvings from breaking. As Gregory Schaff in "American Indian Jewelry I" describes, "Ellen is the matriarch of the Quandelacy family...She raised ten children and taught them her techniques."
