Born In Philadelphia Pa. Etcher, lithographer, Illustrator, writer, teacher, lecturer. Studied at Pennsylvania School of Industrial Art; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under Thomas Eakins lived and traveled abroad extensively. Pennell created more that 800 etchings and more than 600 lithographs, at the same time compleating thousands of illustrations for Century, Harpers Weekly, Scribners and many other magazines on both sides of the Altantic. He and his wife, Elizabeth Robin's Pennell wrote and/or illustrated over 70 books.
