Here is a nice set of 4 books that are the various works of Charles Lamb that were edited by Alfred Ainger for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep them for yourself.

Beautiful 4 Volume Set of Books that are various titles of the Works of Charles Lamb. The books were edited, published and printed by Alfred Ainger. The books were published in 1897 (1898 on the title page) by Macmillan & Co of London. Definitely not first edition books. A previous owner's name, Laura A Day is inked in on one of the blank pages in volume 1.

The books are titled; "Essays of Elia", "Tales from Shakespeare", "Mrs Leicester's School". and "Poems, Plays, & Miscellaneous Essays".

The books are in very nice shape here. We would guess that the books were professionally rebound at some time during the past 120 years. The books have tooled reddish brown leather covers with a gold gilt around the perimeter. The spines are just amazing. The title, volume number, and editor name on the spine. The books also have the publish year of 1891 to 1899 in gold gilt at the bottom of the spine. A blemish on the spine of the Leiscester book, see pic. The top of the open edges of the pages are done in a fine gold gilt. Some minor wear along the top edges on a couple of volumes, again the condition of this set of books is pretty amazing. The inside of the covers and the first blank pages in each book are marbled.

The books' pages do not show any foxing or brown spotting. The pages are still firmly bound together in the volumes and each book still has all the finish on the spine. The covers show hardly any finish loss. Each book is 7-1/8" tall, by 5" across, by 1-3/8" wide. The first volume is pages in length, the second volume is pages.
