Here is a nice 16 Volume Set of books written by David Hume and Tobias Smollett for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself!

Beautiful 16 Volume Set of Books dealing with the History of England. What makes this set of books really intriguing is that they were once owned by the 2nd Duke of San Carlos, Don Jose Miguel de Carvajal. His owner tag is affixed to the inside front cover of each volume. See information below on the previous owner.

The books were written by David Hume and Tobias Smollett and were issued between 1808 and 1811. The first 10 volumes are done by Hume. The next 6 volumes, starting the roman numerals over again are done by Smollett. All the books have the same type of leather hardboard covers. The books were printed/published by James Ballatyne & Co. of Edinburgh, England. This offering here is a complete 16 volume set.

The books have brown leathered hard cover boards and spines. The books are securely bound together. Some wear to the covers along the top and bottom of the spines and the edges of the book covers.

No musty or mildewy smell. No foxing or brown spotting, or moldiness. The pages are still securely bound in all of the books. Some pencil markings in the front blank pages of some of the books. Looks like there was a spill of something sometime in the past along the sides of four of the volumes, 3 thru 6. The staining was kept to the sides of the pages of the book and the inside of the covers in these 4 volume. The stain did penetrate volume 5 by Hume and can be seen on page 302, see pic # 7 at the worst point, going from pages 288 to 308, making less progress on each page as you move away from page 302.

Each book is 8-3/8" tall, by 5-7/16" across, by 1-3/8" wide. Each volume is about 550 pages in length. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions.
