Nice Vintage Howard Miller Ship's Bell Clock and Barometer/Thermometer set for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself!
Nice looking Clock and Barometer set here. Both cases sit loosely on a nicely made mahogany base. The cases are made of solid brass and have a nice gold colored lacquer finish to them. Still have the solid brass stickers on the glass on both pieces. Sound holes on the bottom of the clock case. The hard rubber access plug for the back of the clock case is no longer with it.
This Ship's Bell Clock appears to be part of the Boston Series clocks that were made by the Chelsea Company in Chelsea, MA near Boston. Howard Miller did get cheaper units from Germany, but those had W. Germany impressed on the back of the cases and this set does not. Says 11 jewels on the clock face as well. You be the judge before acquiring the set.
There is a plaque on the front of the case that has a salesman's name on the front of it from 1984 for meeting a sales goal. Nice finish on the front of the wood base. Some minor scratching on the back of the wood base.
Beautiful silver colored tin face on both units. The numbering, minute markings, and barometric pressure markings are impressed into the tin and painted black.
Says Howard Miller in the center of both faces. The clock hands match and look appropriate to the clock. The slow/fast adjustment wheel is in place on the face of the clock, and seems to work as well.
The brass lacquered cases are all there. No dings or dents to the metal cases. Very very minor minor lacquer loss to the cases. The cases' bezels are the screw off type. The glass is intact on both bezels, no cracks or blistering to the glass.
The clock has been running and striking as expected since we acquired the set. The clock has an 8 day mechanical brass movement. Noted as 11 jewels on the face of the clock. The wind springs feel sound when keyed. The clock will come with a vintage wind key. The clock is being sold in running and striking condition.
Cannot say if the Barometer unit is operating or not, and with what accuracy, as have not had long enough to monitor.
Each of the Howard Miller Clock and Barometer units in the mahogany base stands 6.75" tall (back plate is 5-9/16", base is 3" tall), by 14" across (5-38" for each unit by bezel), by 3-1/16" wide. The clock face by bezel glass is 3-7/8" across. A heavier set here so expect the shipping cost to reflect that. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
As can be expected when dealing with a vintage clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So again, ask all questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the clock on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don't be shy, we are always open to reasonable suggestions! This clock is just waiting for the right collector out there to acquire and refurbish for their collection.
