Here is a nice Antique Banjo Clock for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! This is a weight driven version of this clock.
Wow folks, these beauties do not come to the market very often. Here is a nice mahogany cased Time Only Banjo Clock. Not sure of the maker. Per the auction house, the clock came from a prominent Boston, MA estate.
Any help in identifying the maker would be appreciated. Your identity would be kept anonymous. Thanks.
This fine antique wall clock is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a high end auction house or clock shop, as we have been selling clocks for over 35 years. We can therefore better control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the higher end houses and clock shops have.
We would estimate that this clock dates to the latter 1840s to the 1860s. Beautiful mahogany wood veneer case. Nice graining and flaming to it. Some finish loss, still looks good. Do not see any evidence of a trim piece being affixed to the lower part of the case, appears to all be there.
The clock face door and the pendulum door are securely attached to the case by the hinges. There is a nice wood bezel. The latch and eye screw are in place on the clock bezel and pendulum door. Beautiful thick brass rails on the clock on the sides of the center section have a good finish on them and are securely attached to the clock case.
Nice looking metal clock face on this clock, not a paper face here. Painted antique white with black numbering. Some flaking to the paint on the face. The face looks to have some age to it. The clock hands are with the clock as are the taper pin that hold them in place.
Beautiful black and gold reverse painted glass on the center throat. A blister to it in the lower left corner. Great looking metal pendulum rod, with an older looking nice brass bob. The suspension spring is in place.
Has a glass tablet in the lower part of the case of Mt. Vernon. Center part of tablet still looks good, some flaking of the paint around the perimeter, see pics.
Nice older brass movement here. The lead weight is with the clock and the hook is in place. Looks appropriate to the clock. The flat glass over the clock face is intact, no cracks or blistering.
Nice looking brass finial on the top of the clock with the appropriate mahogany center pedestal below it. The clock movement was just recently serviced by Clock Doc. Nice, what appears to be original movement in this clock. The cable for the lead weight shows some wear and tear (has not been replaced). So, selling this clock in running condition after having been serviced. The clock will come with an older wind key.
The Antique Banjo Wall Clock stands 33" (29-7/8" w/o finial, with mahogany pedestal) tall, by 10" across, by 3-7/8" wide. The clock face is 6-7/8" across (by glass in wood bezel). Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
We can ship this Banjo clock to you. Shipping will be more expensive than usual as the clock would need to be shipped in two packages with the heavy lead weight.
We will also offer to deliver the clock to you, or the buyer is welcome to make their own packing and shipping arrangements as well. We have had a lot of clients use blanket ship companies like Antiques Express or one of the national moving chains for higher end furniture pieces like this one. Our clients also use the local UPS store for their packing and shipping needs. We would assist with the removal and separate packing of the movement, pendulum and weight if you wish.
We will also offer to deliver the Clock within 200 miles of Wilmington, DE one way. Price would be $.70 per mile for the round trip delivery plus any tolls/parking fees. So, for example, if 40 miles to your property and $10 in tolls, it would be $66 (2*40*.70+$10) for seller to deliver item to you. Should we agree to deliver this clock to you, and you decide to return the item, for whatever reason, such delivery charges are not refundable.
Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So, please carefully review all the attached pictures, ask all the questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the item on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don't be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions!
