Here is a nice rendering of President Abraham Lincoln from the Civil War for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself!
Offered here is a nice chromolithograph of our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. The rendering is very well done. Made to look like an oil painting, but actually an early chromolithograph on canvas. The piece was done by E. C. Middleton of Cincinnati, OH. They did about 17 different persons, most being US Presidents, but also captured Robert E Lee.
Some loss of finish in Lincoln's beard and not sure if loss of finish or touch up in a couple of spots on his white shirt. Paint has separated to the right of Lincoln's head, the canvas is not torn. Paint has separated to the right of Lincoln's head, the canvas is not torn. Some scuffing to the finish of the lithograph to the left of Lincoln's head.
This sort of rendering gave "common folks" the ability to have what looked like an oil painting of one of their national heroes. The piece was done in 1864 and the stamp is still on the back of the canvas. The story online was that Lincoln actually reviewed his image that Middleton worked up, and critiqued it and the image was changed to reflect how Lincoln saw himself. Supposedly no other image of Lincoln received that sort of input for a change by himself. Quite fascinating! The artwork has not been examined out of the frame.
The wood and plaster frame shows a lot of wear. Plaster loss as seen in pics. Frame is seamed together in four places and the glue has dried out. So, frame is starting to come apart. Metal hanger wire is off on one side and brittle. Would replace if I were you before hanging.
The President Abraham Lincoln Chromolithograph including the frame is 22" tall, by 19" across, by 1-5/8" wide. the artwork is 16" tall by 13" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions.
