Here is a nice set of 3 books about the Gardens of England put out between 1907 to 1911 for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep them for yourself.
Great 3 Volume Set of Books entitled, "The Gardens of England". The books were edited by Charles Holme and put out between 1907 to 1911. They were published by Offices of the Studio in London. Each of the books has a J L Beijers stamp in the front of the book, they are a new and old book store in the Netherlands.
The first book is paperback and is of the Gardens of England in the Northern Counties. Published in 1911.
The second book is hard cloth covers (dark and light green covers) and entitled "The Gardens of England in the Southern and Western Counties". Published in 1907.
The third book has hard cloth covers (dark and light green covers) and entitled, "The Gardens of England in the Midland and Eastern Counties". Published in 1908.
An overview of the books; Books were put out each year to show the most fabulous gardens in England, where such things were national obsessions back then.
Slight dusty smell to the books, no mold or mildew issues. The books are packed with photos and illustrations from the expedition.
The books' pages do not show any foxing or brown spotting. The books have green hardcovers with the title of the book and author signature in gold gilt. Same with the spine. The pages are still firmly bound together in the volumes and each book still has the finish on the spine. The covers do show some minor finish loss, some rub at the corners.. The front and back covers of the first volume and the back cover of the second volume are a little loose at the spine and will need some attention. Some sort of Publishers & Booksellers Protective Assn stamp in the back of Volume 1 with a 67548 stamped on it.
Each book is 11.5" tall, by 8-5/8" across, by 1-3/8" wide. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions.
