A nicely done Antique French Chinoserie Clock from Frace for your buying consideration. The wood case is very nicely done and intact. Look at the chinoserie designs on the front and sides of this clock case. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep it for yourself.

Not sure whom the maker of this clock is. The movement was made in France. The clock face has Callow of Mt Street Mayfair, which is a high end retail area in England. Probably a high end jeweler in that area that sold/distributed this clock. You do not come across this style clock very often in the marketplace and certainly not in this nice of condition. This clock is from the latter 1800s to early 1900s period.

Nice looking wood pagoda style roof on this clock case. The top side is a two toned brown. The underside of the roof is green. The finial appears to be original to the clock with a similar one we found online (missing the back part of the base of the finial). The chinoserie on the case is in very nice condition. A red, black and gold design to it. There was probably a press on back plate to the case that is no longer there.

Nice looking silver metal face as well. The hands match and look appropriate to the clock. There is a brass trim ring around the face. The concave glass over the face is intact, no cracks or blistering. The piece of glass over the face is fixed in place, not hinged. Some dust dirt under the glass that needs to be removed.

Beautiful brass movement inside of the case. Can see some sort of horizontal escapement wheel at the top of the movement. Not sure if this might be a fusee movement based upon a couple of others that we have seen over the past 35 years and one that sold at an auction in 2009 at Christie's for over $2.2k US (that had a fusee mvmt). The case was 2" taller, same chinoserie design and wind from front with a hinged wood front door.

We are not certain if this clock has a fusee movement or not yet.

We have cleaned and oiled the bushings and pinion points. The clock is not in running condition. The wind feels sound when keyed. Will know in a few days if this is a fusee movement or not, stay tuned. Priced to be a fusee at this juncture until we know for certain. So, the clock is being sold in not running condition.

This French Chinoserie Shelf clock stands 10" tall, by 6-5/16" across, by 4-1/16" wide. The clock face is 2-1/8" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.

The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.

As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.

Make sure that this item meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So again, ask all questions you have, come see in person (Wilmington, DE) or send a friend to see the piece on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it.
