Here is a great Antique Map of the Most Considerable Plantation of the English in America for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself!
This is a beautiful antique map engraving. The map was originally done in 1700 by Sutton Nichols as the cartographer. The map was drawn and engraved for the atlas, " New Set of Maps both of Ancient and present Geography" published by Edward Wells, Oxford England, 1700.
The map captures the early east cost of the colonies in America and the plantations held by them. Check out the Chesapeake Bay as it was considered at that time. A little narrower than it actually is, eh?! One of these maps just sold this fall for over $1,300 US.
Some minor foxing or brown spotting. The map was once folded down the middle. We see no rips, tears or repairs to the engraving. Just a little round tear or missing paper in the map to the right of the "New" in "New England". All the map is there. Edges have some wear. The frame conceals some of the side borders.
Not sure what version of this map this one actually is. Any help with that would be much appreciated. Thanks.
The engraving was professionally mounted in a gold colored wood frame with tan cloth matting. The backing is intact on the frame to keep dust and dirt off of the engraving. The hanging wire is still in place. The glass over the map is intact, no cracking or blistering. The piece was nicely framed and matted by Sessler's Bookshop of Philadelphia. They went out of business in the late 1980s.
The Framed Antique Map is 24-5/8" tall, by 28.5" across, by 1" wide. The map showing within the matting is 16.5" tall by 20.5" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions.
