Check out this antique Chadwick London violin bow that I recently picked up at an auction for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself!
The violin bow was probably made by a John Chadwick, a Bausch workshop piece. He made bows, violins, violas and cellos and resided in London, England. Here is an old ad for his product that I found online;
The bow appears to be made of pernambuco wood. Very little loss of the finish along the shaft. Nice looking frog on it. The bow has no cracks, splits or repairs to the wood that I can see to report to you. Only exception is a hairline crack at end of shaft the will require some repair attention. Says "Chadwick London" on the shaft above the frog. Good camber. Strong flex to the shaft and I can ascertain no warping, splits or repairs to report to you with exception of what already noted. The leather winding on the bow show wear, that is securely fixed on both sides. Interesting round metal tack that goes thru the shaft out by the top of the tip. Appears not to be a repair, but one of the methods used by the maker to come up with a more superior product.
Nice mother of pearl inlays on the sides of the ebony frog and along the bottom of it. Silver and ebony end screw with what appears to be a piece of mother of pearl on the end which is unique. The bow is 29-1/4" (743mm) long. The bow weighs 2.0 ounces (56 grams) with the horse hair. The violin bow will most likely need rehairing. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
Make sure that this violin bow meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, but there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So again, ask all questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the item on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it.
