Here is a Antique German Violin for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself!
This violin has a label in it that says Joseph Guarnerius Anno 1734. We can guarantee you that this is not an authentic Guarnerius violin. This is a German violin probably made in the early 1900s (not 1734 as marked) that was then marketed as a Guarnerius (JG) model fashioned after one of JG's violins from the 1700s.
The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this violin. The violin has a two piece soundboard and two piece back. Some rosin residue most notably on the belly, some on the back. Beautiful tiger maple striping on the back of the violin. Nice golden brown stain on the of the entire violin. Some minor finish loss over the years to the body of the violin. I see no repairs to the body of the violin, the neck or the scroll to report to you. There is a hairline crack Nice purfling, f hole, and scroll work. The corner blocks are in place. The beaks look good. The fingerboard has no ridging that would impede string play. Three tuning pegs are in place. The soundboard and back are tightly glued to the sides, no separations to report.
The sound post is up inside the violin body. Cannot say that it will be once shipped. Nice two piece back on this fiddle and I see no cracks or repairs on it to report. The back's finish has a translucent look to it. The purfling is inlaid, not painted on. Three of the strings are in place, expect to have to replace them. The strings will be removed to more safely ship the violin to you. The chin rest, bridge and tailpiece are in place.
The violin is 23.25" long, by 8-3/15" across at the lower bout and 6-5/8" 8across at the upper bout. The violin body is 14-1/8" long.
The violin comes in an older hard case that shows some wear and tear. The latches work and top securely attached to the base. Leather handle is still on the case.
This musical instrument is not represented to be in playing condition. There will need to be refurbishing done to make this instrument playable again. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
