Nice Vintage Observer Ship Clock (Time Only, No Strike) for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep it for yourself!
We recently acquired this item with a number of other marine/nautical items in Maine.
Nice looking wall clock here. Made by the Observer Company of Germany. This is not the smaller 4" case model. This is the larger 10" case model. Nice silver colored tin face on this clock. The numbering and minute markings are painted onto the tin and painted black.
"Observer" is noted in the middle of the face of the clock. The hands match and look appropriate to the clock. The red seconds hand is also in place and moves as expected. Looks like the seconds hand broke and was repaired at one time, see pics. The slow/fast adjustment screw is in place on the face of the clock, and seems to work as well. The brass peg to open the bezel is still in place.
The brass case is all there. No dings or dents to the metal case. Does show some lacquer loss to the brass finish of the metal case. Some finish loss and scratching on the back plate. The case has a hinged bezel. The glass is intact, no cracks or blistering to the glass.
The clock has an 8 day mechanical brass movement. The wind spring feels sound when keyed. The clock will come with a vintage wind key. So, the clock is being sold in running condition.
The Observer Clock stands 10" tall by front bezel, by 10-7/8" by back plate, by 2-7/8" wide. The clock face is 7.5" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
As can be expected when dealing with a vintage clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So again, ask all questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the clock on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don't be shy, we are always open to reasonable suggestions! This clock is just waiting for the right collector out there to acquire and refurbish for their collection.
