Here is a nice Antique S Marti Porcelain Case Clock for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself!
Nice Porcelain Case Clock here with a French movement and open escapement. Made by S Marti of France. The clock dates to the latter 1800s.
The clock has a floral designed porcelain urn case. Great rose flowering designs on the front of the clock case. The case has a beautiful antique white background. The designs are then done in green, pink, gold, and light blue. Painted cupids on either side of the clock face. Metal dragon images that are gold colored on both sides of the porcelain urn case. The gold finish on the metal pieces was probably re-lacquered or reapplied at some point in the past.
The base of the case has lion's feet on it and puttis drawing on paper. There is a removable gold topper with a putti on it as well.
The case does show very minor crazing to the finish. There is a crack in the urn case just where is sits into the metal bottom and goes up the where one of the dragons affixes to the case. That starts at the back and the runs to the front left side from the dragon over to the face.
We see no other cracks or hairlines to bring to your attention. Some finish loss at the base of the legs. The gold colored metal back door is still in place on the clock. Some scratching to the porcelain finish of the clock on the back to the left of the door.
Beautiful porcelain ring face on this clock. Beautiful hand painted porcelain face on this clock. Gold colored marking with black roman numerals. Wear to the face from age, we see no hairlines in the porcelain face. The grommet rings are in place around the wind holes. The hands match and look appropriate to the clock. Nice gold trim ring around the face. The bezel is securely attached to the case by the hinge. The beveled glass in the bezel is intact, no cracking or blistering to the glass.
The movement is a brass French one. Has the S Marti logo and marking incised into the back plate of the movement. Also, "3" "11" at the bottom of movement below logo. The movement also has the numbers "1706" on it. The two wind springs feel sound when keyed. The movement and gearing are all there. This is most likely an 8 day movement.
When manually run the hands the movement clicks on the half hour and hour. The clock comes with a wind key. The strike bell is in place. There is no pendulum with the movement, so cannot test if running or not. The wire strike gong is in place. Suspension spring and hanger for the pendulum is in place. So, this clock is being sold in not running and striking condition.
The Samuel Marti Urn Style Clock stands 20-1/2" tall (14-13/16" tall w/ topper off), by 10" across by dragons, by 7.75" wide. The clock face is 3" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections of antique items in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
