Here is a great Antique French S Marti Clock for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion or keep for yourself!
Nice Marti Clock here by itself. What really makes it special as has original pendulum bob as number on it matches up with the one incised on the movement as well, "9124". Then the movement and the pendulum bob both have a sailing ship incised on them. And on the three sails on each ship are the initials, "JLF". Also, the clock case has a coffin style rear door.
Beautiful mantel clock here made in France. The maker was Samuel Marti. The clock dates to the latter 1800s to early 1900s. Has a beautiful brass French movement. and then two bronze plaques and then the slate case. The elegant hands are still on the clock and look appropriae to it. The face is made of porcelain, no grommets are in place. No hairlines or cracks in the porcelain face that we can ascertain. The front bezel and rear coffin door are on hinges and attached to the clock case. Both still secured well.
The glass is intact and beveled in the front door. Very concaved out design to the glass that makes it unique.
The case is made of wood with a goldish brown crazed finish. The case has a Rococo Style to it. Flower designs all over the case and two lovers in a design on center front bottom of the case. The beautiful dragon legs are still in place as is the the gold colored metal trim tacked to the clock all over it. Some trim tacks missing and one of the legs a little loose.
Have oiled the rear pivot points on the back movement of the clock. The clock will hold a beat and strikes once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hour. Both wind springs feels sound when keyed. The clock will come with a wind key. This is a time and gong wire strike clock.
This clock's movement has not been serviced and is being sold running and striking condition.
The movement has a S Marti impressed bronze medal medallion on it in the center behind the bell.
