Here is a great clock for your buying consideration. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself.
Wow, what a beautiful bronze case clock here and a heavy one too for being so small! The clock case has a great Art Deco look to it. My guess is that the clock dates to the 1920s.
The clock was made for J E Caldwell & Company, the Philadelphia, PA jeweler. I would guess that the clock was made in Germany for the jeweler, but there are no markings on the clock case that denote maker or country of origination.
The case and glass on this clock look very similar to a Chelsea clock and barometer set that I found online, but there are not outward markings of Chelsea on this clock face or on the back of the case. The location of the serial number on the back of movement is in the same place as another Chelsea clock we found online. The knob to adjust hands and the wind key also match up exactly with another Chelsea Clock listed online. See listing # 201206551184.
Any assistance in identifying the maker and year of origination of this clock would be appreciated. Your identity would be kept anonymous. Thanks.
Beautiful thick beveled glass over the face that has no cracks, chips or blistering to it. The clock has a nice looking gold and silver colored face with black roman numerals. The clock has silver colored hands that match and look appropriate to the clock. The clock has a serial number of 188563 on the back of the movement. The stand is still securely attached to the case by the hinges.
The clock has been in running condition since we acquired it. This is a time only clock, no strike or chime. Some minor dust under the glass, so could use the inside of the glass over the face being cleaned.
The clock stands 6-1/8" tall, by 6-1/8" across, by 3.5" wide (2.25" with stand folded in). Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So, please carefully review all the attached pictures, ask all the questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the item on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don't be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions!
